Stas Orlovski

Fountains, Wounds, and Other Fragments

Friday, March 19th - Saturday, April 17th, 1999

Opening Reception: Friday, March 19, 1999, 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Los Angeles based artist Stas Orlovski pageants his collection of absurd nose jobs, forced smiles, birthmarks, blemishes, drooling tongues, disembodied heads and ecstatic body fluids in “Fountains, Wounds and Other Fragments”. A quirky mixture of 18th and 19th century medical illustrations, scientific diagrams and caricatures, Orlovski’s drawings of isolated and fragmented body parts are at once humorous and disturbing.  Noses, tongues and foreheads float and loom on vast and empty canvases, evoking a sense of loss, fear and desire. Yet in Orlovski’s obsessively and elegantly rendered marks and lines, each strand of hair, bead of sweat and dribble of saliva, sentimentally disintegrates into a highly sensuous surface. Stas Orlovski received his MFA from USC in 1996.  He has exhibited throughout Southern California at galleries including POST and Miller Fine Art in Los Angeles.
