In David Morrow’s Lost light blue skies swell with clouds that range from sweetly calm to those that threaten a storm of incalculable proportions. In the Toronto based artist’s paintings, absurd objects such as hats, blimps, surf boards, cancerous cobalt lips and lonely jet streams, aimlessly float and fly amidst the clouds. Exploring the deaths of his parents and friends, the objects in Morrow’s paintings, paired in some images with equally absurd and obscure pieces of text, appear ambiguous and without direction. Unanswering our questions and unfulfilling our needs, only the lingering jet streams seem optimistic, “reminding us that there is always a journey and an unknown destination.” Born in Ontario, Canada, David Morrow has made Toronto his home. He has exhibited his paintings at The Gallery in Cambridge, Ontario and Garnet Press Gallery in Toronto.
