Spring to Autumn Period

Stanley Chan and Christopher Duncan

Spring to Autumn Period

February 9 – March 10, 2001

Opening Reception: Friday, February 9, 2001, 6:00 – 8:00pm

This exhibition explores the December-May partnership between these two artists who, on the surface, have little in common.  Whereas Christopher Duncan is young and romantic, a traveler and adventurer, Stanley Chan is twice Duncan’s age and has worked at the same place for over twenty years, going to the same restaurant for breakfast each morning. Whereas Duncan’s work addresses broad themes such as life and death, Chan’s work is about everyday stories. What these artists share is the habit of filling their pockets with discarded scraps of paper and bits of stuff off the street.  The collection of such pocket-debris serves as the basis for this duo’s art making, the results of which can be seen in Spring to Autumn Period.
