Megan Wilson
Irresistible Terror of Loveliness
February 9 – March 10, 2001
Opening Reception: Friday, February 9, 2001, 6:00 – 8:00pm
With the bizarre distortions and exaggerations of human, animal and floral forms, Megan Wilson’s installation, The Irresistible Terror of Loveliness, submits a grotesque, metaphoric look at biotechnology, glut, and systems gone awry. In this large-scale work, Wilson covers the 61-foot west wall of the gallery with an excess of complex and intricate decoration made from swirling narrow strips of brightly colored paper. Wilson’s technique is based on an eighteenth-century craft form known as quilling or paper filigree.
