Birgit Gehrt’s artwork is an intuitive and hands-on response to the complexities of everyday life. This solo exhibition will incorporate part of her daily art-making ritual within the confines of the gallery. In an attempt to understand the fragility and absurdity between the personal and public, she will turn to repetitive hands-on technique such as crocheting, knitting, embroidering, drawing, book-making and object altering Confront daily by mass information and speed, Gerht describes this confusion through the slow construction of objects and installations. Inspired by daily events and experiences, the artwork fluctuates from the personal to the political. These everyday, non-precious materials and craft techniques process her confusion and escape from current affairs.
