In birdy, Kelsey Nicholson explores the dichotomy of round and flat, the three-dimensional world of imaginative possibility versus the planar world in which “life proceeds according to the ‘things to do today list." Through unconventional representations of landscape and the natural world, birdy specifically deals with the need to re-create nature in “the flat world.”
