Twelve Brief Moments: Reading & Publication Launch

Twelve Moments of Brevity Spread Over One Year (Part 12)

Twelve Brief Moments: Reading & Publication Launch

The culminating event of Michael Swaine's year-long series of enacted readings, Twelve Moments of Brevity Spread Over One Year, is a final reading and the publication launch of all twelve collected texts. The chapbook serves as a document of Swaine's events, during which he read and performed a short text-based work once a month from February 2013 through March 2014.

At this March 5 event, Swaine will present his final moment of brevity and read the introduction to Twelve Brief Moments, which provides instructions on how to read the chapbook and the best places to do so. A volunteer will then follow these instructions to read a previous moment of brevity to the audience.

Twelve Moments of Brevity Spread Over One Year was inspired by a class taught by Cooley Windsor titled BREVITY. The subject matter of each "Moment of Brevity" differed greatly, from Swaine's personal history to absurd linguistic proposals. At each gathering, Swaine solicited audience participation through gentle instruction, engaging small groups of people in activities like regimented breathing, hand holding and scissor balancing.
