Artists in Education Program

Spring 2010 Youth Advisory Board

Lead Teaching Artist: Monica Martinez
Assistant Teaching Artist: Meg Escude
Intern: Veronica Graham
Community Partners: Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) and the Mayors Youth Education Employment Program (MYEEP)

This spring, YAB creates mobile display units that enable them to share ideas, objects and products they develop with the public. Inspired by markets of exchange, students investigate contemporary artists whose work explores bartering, skill sharing, and trade-economies; and look at artwork influenced by the aesthetics of underground economies. YAB's final projects will be presented to the public from May to June 2010.
YAB is a group of high school students, college students, and artists from diverse communities throughout the Bay Area that initiate and produce innovative projects. YAB serves as a task force to empower youth through arts advocacy, events and workshops. SoEx teaches YAB members to use art as a community-building tool and provides them with a space to create their own events and have their collective voices heard.
