CALLING

CALLING re-engages the art of visiting, or paying calls, upon a household within the intuitive practices of awareness of space and spirit. Participants will reacquaint themselves with the fine arts of sitting in company, silence, energetic play, psychometry, and communion with physical and non-physical energies. A blend of meditative practice, parlor games, and intuitive strategies for increasing awareness, this early evening’s event invites the polite, the shy, the sensitive, and the loving to visit a receptive household for refreshment of mind and heart. Visitors are asked to bring an object that is small enough to fit in a pocket and of no monetary value as a blessing to the household.

Responding

We will meet at the steps of our host home, and before crossing its threshold, we will take a group walk, circling it and situating it. When we have hit the midpoint of our arc, we will stop to sit quietly and share in an observation based drawing session. We will then continue back, prepared to enter and engage in the experience of home guided by Asher and Haruko. No drawing experience is required, and in fact, the less experience the greater the potential for seeing. I will be happy to offer my thoughts and encouragements on plein air drawing. Please bring one piece of paper and one writing/drawing utensil.

Southern Machine Exposure Project events all take place in private homes that serve as public venues. As a result of the intimate nature of these 20 unique spaces there is limited attendance for each event. If you’d like to attend, you must sign up ahead of time and register online. Registration for each project opens seven days prior to the actual event. One new project opens daily at noon beginning June 4, 2012. Times and audience capacity varies for each project. Pre-registration is REQUIRED and all events are FREE.

Southern Machine Exposure Project is a project developed by Southern Exposure (San Francisco) and Machine Project (Los Angeles), involving 20 combinations of artists and performers from LA and SF, presented off-site in 20 homes in the Bay Area over 20 consecutive days from June 11 - 30.
