In On The Threshold, Oakland-based artist Andrea Brewster uses images of American immigrants on Ellis Island which are overlapped with hand-written fairy tales to emphasize the disparity between the fantastic and present social reality…On The Threshold examines the deconstruction of the ‘Old World Order’ as we sit on the edge of the ‘new world order.” Brewster’s photographs of the immigrants are covered meticulously with pastel handwritten fairytales from various immigrant cultures, tales pertaining to journeys and new places.
