Opening Reception: 6 – 8:00 pm, September 2 1994.

Recent Paintings is a thematically organized cross section of the highly-visible spray and stencil artist’s montage-like, hallucinatory work. Art critic Stephen Parr states, “Williams (has) a vision of culture as a pop graveyard. (He) resurrects images of Karl Marx, Frida Kahlo, Lucille Ball, Hank Williams, Charles Manson and even Colonel Sanders in his abstracted view of collision culture. Williams appropriates bizarre bits of pop Americana images to walls, resurrected furniture and automobiles. The resulting images reveal a kind of “insane panic” under their all-too happy pop facades.
