Landing

Juried Exhibition

Landing

October 30 - December 13, 2003

A different theme for the juried exhibition is selected every year to inspire and encourage a broad level of artistic expression. The 2003 theme, Landing, is based n a conversation among Southern Exposure’s Curatorial Committee members and the exhibition juror regarding how globalization has become a complex component of our environment and space in both the art work and the Bay Area.  Landing implies a sense of place and time, comings and goings, falling or rest. This theme may inspire artists to conceptualize and express their ideas of site, adaptation and survival, as well as the in-between spaces of travel and rest. By leaving the theme and media open to the artists’ interpretation, the work is conceptual and aesthetically diverse, drawing from as many insights and forms of expression as possible.
