"Sudden Infestation" (2017) was created by Chris Doyle for Southern Exposure's 2017 Art Auction. The work is part of a new series of collaged watercolors on paper that consider the dense networks of cultural complexities that affect and define our perception of landscape. This latest body of work continues the artist’s response to "The Course of Empire" (1833-36), Thomas Cole’s canonical depiction of the cyclical bloom and decay of human civilization and the natural world.

Chris Doyle is a multidisciplinary artist who received his B.F.A. from Boston College and his Master of Architecture from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. Using media and new technologies to address timeless subjects, Doyle’s work focuses on societal need for restoration and conservation.

Doyle’s work has been shown at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, MassMOCA, MoMA PS1, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. His work has been supported by grants from New York Foundation for the Arts, NYSCA, and the Creative Capital Foundation. Doyle’s temporary and permanent urban projects include "LEAP," presented by Creative Time and Commutable, commissioned by the Public Art Fund. July 2014, Doyle’s film “Bright Canyon” transformed Times Square’s electronic billboards into flourishing landscapes, demonstrating a juxtaposition between nature and the concrete jungle. In 2014, Doyle was the recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship which recognizes and encourages advanced professionals.
