Southern Exposure’s Artists in Education (AIE) Program presents Centering the Wallflower, an exhibition featuring work from the Mission Voices Summer (MVS) youth artist cohort along with projects from our Youth Advisory Board, and work by this year’s teaching artists. 

Centering the Wallflower includes murals, installations, animation, prints, videos, and paintings that envision the self as traversing liminal spaces and navigating sites of ambiguity. The work embodies a diverse range of themes including pride, the envisioning of future selves, and the movement of time. The exhibition focuses on those that exist and thrive on the periphery of the mainstream, centering the heart of the cohort’s collective identity. It’s time for the wallflower to get the spotlight.
