Lead Teaching Artist: Erik Parra
Artist Assistant: Ivan Lopez
Community Partner: Downtown High School

SoEx's Artists in Education Program partners with Downtown High School in Potrero Hill for the second semester of Print Shop! SoEx created a Do-It-Yourself screen printing studio, available to all students at Downtown High School for a year-long after school workshop. The class is geared to help foster community artists, promote skills and make a positive impact on youth and their communities.

SoEx’s AIE Program at Downtown High works to foster the integration of the arts into school curriculum. The workshop integrates elements of photography, graphic design, color theory, and drawing and focuses on personal symbolism and symbols that speak to larger communities. Students analyze silk-screening designs related to political, historical and social movements. During the winter-spring 2009 semester, the class will continue to focus school identity and spirit by reinventing the school mascot. The most relevant design will be chosen as the actual logo for the school and will be printed on t-shirts that will be distributed throughout the student body. A final show and public display of artwork will take place at Downtown High School at the end of the semester.
