Lift Off!!! Club of the Month Club Quarterly #4

An event about hard science and serious fun led by artist Randy Colosky

Lift Off!!! Club of the Month Club Quarterly #4

The Sentient Armchair Scientist Association (S.A.S.A.) presents Lift Off!!! – an event for rocket builders, aficionados and theorists. Together we'll construct rockets from plastic water bottles and cardboard and fuel them with baking soda and vinegar. When baking soda and vinegar mix together, it releases carbon dioxide gas so fast it can potentially create the energy necessary to launch a rocket into the air. Like the great space exploration agencies before us, we will as a team briefly discourse on the principles of rocket-propelled flight and then begin constructing rockets. Through trial and error we will improve upon our techniques, building rockets to fly higher and crash even more spectacularly.

All ages are welcome to participate. You can bring a rocket to the event or build one there. Club members will receive protective glasses, rubber gloves, water bottles, colored tape, cardboard, fuel for rockets and a special S.A.S.A sticker to apply to your rocket just in case it flies into orbit and needs to identified by the International Space Station. Led by artist Randy Colosky.

Our friends at the Mission Local produced this piece that captured the ensuing chaos:
