February 14 - March 1, 2003
Opening Reception: Friday, Febraury 14, 2003, 6:00 – 8:00pm
Artists: Diana Mars, Minerva, Jared, Free Fruit and Temporary Services. On view in the OVERLOOK Project Space is Shadow Cabinets a collection of artists’ projects that intervene and interact in the social and political spheres outside of the gallery. The artists will use the Overlook space as a base of operations for their public projects, utilizing it as a place to install documentation, hold meetings and conduct activities. This project will look at how artists are directing their work directly into areas that were formerly the province of government and civic services and agencies. The fact that this is a time of widespread retreat from social spending by government becomes both a backdrop and counterpoint to the artists' projects. The exhibition series will include artists' projects creating community dinners, exercise courses, open radio programming, fruit dispersal and other public interventions. Featured artists and artist's groups include Temporary Services, Diana mars/Any Wednesday, let's Be Active, Free Fruit/Fruta Gratis and others to be announced.
