Richards investigates his experience of living below the Plaza Hotel, a transient hotel located on Sixth Street between Market and Howard Streets in San Francisco. He describes his version of the hotel’s interior not as a literal recreation but as “an imaginary interior landscape, one catalyzed by both the ghostly life of the urban transient and the relentlessly present intensity that permeates the neighborhood.”
