Southern Exposures fifth annual entry free juried exhibition. Like the elastic term obsessions, the exhibit stretches eclectically and eccentrically beyond the breaking point of many theme shows – from Amber R. Tyler’s Tongue-tied maraschino cherry stems in a jar to Pringles, Kathy Fenker’s glittering shrine to couch potatodom, and the maniacal Go Girl! The Pinball Machine by Michael Brown in collaboration with Rex Ray, M.C Schmidt, and Chris Walker. Nina Stavinga’s nauseating python-skin bustier is enough to make callused flesh crawl, while Jane D’Arensbourg’s immaculately fragile glass fishnet legs hang glitzily from the ceiling. Amy Berk’s aptly titled Obsesion is a bright, minimalist wheel of life and loopy psychoscape bristling with constellations of circular obsessions enmeshed in 96 embroidery hoops.
