MOMMY’S BOY/ DADDY’S GIRL

October 8th, November 6th, 1993

Opening Reception: 6 – 8pm, Friday, October 8th, 1993

In MOMMY’S BOY/ DADDY’S GIRL, by Davis artist Gale Jesi, spins a parallel yet polar yarn of gender differentiation. Two bronzed articles of children’s clothing, a dress and a boy’s shirt, twirl simultaneously on stand.  The complementary embroidered text calls attention to the fact that while it may be acceptable to be ‘Daddy’s Girl,” it’s opposite, “Mommy’s Boy” carries with it negative connotations of femininity.
