Limbo
April 19 – May 18, 1996
Opening Reception: 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Friday, 19 April, 1996
Limbo was conceived in response to conditions that emerging artists often face. The curators sought artists who had achieved a strong voice, but whose track record had yet to reflect that strength. From curatorial process emerged an exhibition that explores the aesthetic of gender. With work that transforms boytoys into girltoys, draws sweet and disturbing scenes literally from memory and converts familiar domestic tableaux into surreal objects of fixation, the title takes on new significance. “Limbo” explores the indeterminate spaces, indistinct distances and inexact boundaries within which this work defines us.
