From The Hunger World: The Precious Playtime in Five Acts

July 8-25, 1992

Opening Reception: Fri, July 10: 6-8 pm.

With The Precocious Playtime in Five Acts, Elisa Jimenez continues to explore and expand upon the Hunger World, a pseudo-fictional fantasyland gone awry. Begun while Jimenez was a graduate student in 1989 at the University of Arizona, The Hunger World subsists on appetites of all kinds—sexual, emotional, spiritual and intellectual. It is a world complete with its own mythology and characters, wraught with compulsive activity, passion and obsession. Jimenez works with sensual, often perishable materials such as honey, jam, flower petals and potpourri-items which resonate with implications of femininity, beauty and decay at the same time. The Precocious Playtime will be a series of five process oriented installations, each lasting roughly two days and changing every night.
