Byproduct: Deviation From Design
August 31 – October 13, 2001
Opening Reception: Friday, August 31, 2001, 6:00 – 8:00pm
Through conceptually-driven design processes, the creators apply their commercial training to non-commercial projects. Byproduct results in a collection of artifacts that fall between the traditional definitions of art and design. These “byproducts” are a hybrid of two disciplines, resulting in what can be coined as “outsider design.” Trained in industrial design, sound design, landscape architecture, product engineering, furniture, apparel, information, and graphic design, these practitioners are creating cultural artifacts stripped from the usual constraints of client-commissioned production.
