100 Views of the Invisible Hand

September 2 – October 1, 1994

Opening Reception: 6 – 8:00 pm, September 2 1994.

100 Views of the Invisible Hand consists of a series of intricate, highly-detailed portraits based on women’s suspect arrest photographs from 1915-18 San Francisco. Playing with archival presentation and authoritarian power, the drawings are presented in a museum-like manner, behind glass in shallow wooden boxes. The artist calls into question the way power functions through images, whether they are mug shots or works of art.
