Summer Internships at SoEx

Interested in nonprofit administration, public programs, or arts education?

Join Southern Exposure as an intern and be immersed in the glamorous (or, at least, meaningful and creative) world of nonprofit arts administration! To apply, submit a cover letter and resume to [email protected] by March 31, 2017. In your cover letter, please rank your interest in the following internship opportunities. A SoEx staff member will respond to you by late April. Internships will begin in mid-May.

Mission Voices Summer is a four-week summer arts program that gives young people the opportunity to exercise leadership skills and participate in their community by exploring relevant social and personal issues through visual and performing arts. The MVS intern will work with the Artists in Education Director to help with coordination, administration and final installation of the program. The intern will also help with publicity, in-kind donations, outreach and support for the final event of the program.
Skills needed: an interest in community arts and organizations, working with youth, and event planning. Being bilingual is a plus.

Arts Administration interns work with all staff members to support various project-based tasks. This includes grant research, assisting with installations, mailings, distribution, soliciting donations and volunteers, and other duties related to the administration of a nonprofit arts organization. If you are self-motivated, flexible, and eager to learn, this internship is a great introduction to Southern Exposure and often leads to participation in more specialized projects.
Skills needed: Some experience with Google Drive, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

The Photo Documentation intern works with the Projects and Exhibitions Program Director to document Southern Exposure's exhibitions, education programs, events, projects and performances. This position requires someone who has exceptional photography experience. Subject matter includes gallery installation shots, artwork details, publicity images, crowd images during events and receptions, and live performance documentation. Responsibilities include processing digital images of current exhibition programming for our website, press purposes and our digital archive. This position requires some evening and weekend shifts as well as 12-20 office hours per month.
Skills needed: Working knowledge of photographing in daylight, tungsten, and cross-illuminated environments. Proficiency in Photoshop is required. A working knowledge of Illustrator and InDesign is a plus, and access to a Digital SLR camera is preferred.
Duration: 3 months – 1 year

The Development & Fundraising Events intern works closely with the Associate Director on all aspects of Southern Exposure's grant-writing, membership, and other development projects. The intern will gain familiarity with how to plan and produce membership campaigns and events; how to plan, draft, and refine grant proposals and final reports for funders; and other projects as needed.
Skills needed: Strong communication skills, an outgoing personality, attention to detail, ability to work independently, interest in nonprofit fundraising and event planning; familiarity with social media and a solid working knowledge of general office applications such as Google Drive, Microsoft Word and Excel.
