 “I grew up on a farm in rural Michigan. My family, a long line of conservationists and educators, instilled in me a belief in maintaining a strong and persistent work ethic . There was value in a physical, sensual, laborious engagement with the environment...My concerns with the environment, obsolescence, and societal and personal attitudes are, to varying degrees, the stuff that instigates and provokes the ideas for pieces. But the work itself – its existence – seems more like the result of the desire to maintain a personal work ethic that connects ideas, materials, tools and myself.” –Amie Laird McNeel
