This piece is from of a series of embroidered objects that examine the obsolescence of paper media. As a physical object, a National Geographic magazine conjures a particularly strong identity due to it's bold yellow cover and ubiquitous presence. By representing the National Geographic in embroidered form, the artist hopes to remind you of the physicality and tactility of the magazine, and to spark a pang of nostalgia for its presence.

Lauren DiCioccio is an artist based in San Francisco; she works primarily in the medium of soft sculpture. Her work explores the qualities of lightness, nostalgia and familiarity associated with this material. She is represented by Jack Fischer Gallery.
