Submersion: A Water-Based Performance Video Workshop

March 4 – April 9, 2005

Lead Teaching Artist: Jessica Tully
Artist's Assistant: Moriah Kinberg
Collaborators: Arriba Juntos, Jewish Vocational Services, John O’Connell High School San Francisco Merionettes Synchronized Swim Club

Submersion: A Water Based Performance Video Workshop was created in conjunction with Jessica Tully’s own exhibition: Liquidations- The Dance of Water & Power. Tully’s work highlights the connection between water and power in northern, southern, and central California. The workshop participants worked with Tully and assistant Moriah Kinberg to conceptualize, choreograph, perform and document with digital video and still images, an underwater movement sequence that related to Tully’s concepts. In addition to learning about the politics of water, participants learned about the work of relevant performance artists and how to visualize and plan for group projects, choreograph performances, and use digital video cameras.
