ALTAR’s first opening brought native Bay Area artists Johnny Abrahams, Kamau Patton, Melissa Sachs, and Andrew Normal Wilson back to their home base to install and perform works at the Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist. ALTAR programmed five events at the church: an opening reception, a live-streamed narrative by Emily Bovino, a lip-synched monologue by Bryan Morello, and sound performances by GALLS (Aaron Wacks and Miguel Serra) and Tell_ (Kamau Patton). These events gave the artists the opportunity to create work responding to the environs of a church.
