TARA FOLEY

Artists in Education Program Manager, Southern Exposure

Originally from New York City’s Lower East Side, Tara is the only child of two artistic hippies. Tara grew up enamored with subway car graffiti in the 80’s. Tara received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College. She spent a semester in Ghana, where she didn’t receive a good grade because she never contacted her instructors. She preferred to be lost in the jungle, on her own, experiencing secret traditional religious ceremonies.

After the experience in Ghana, Tara only wanted to travel. She traveled for four years after college, mainly living in Japan and India. Not wanting to live in the United States at all, Tara gave the US one last-ditch effort by visiting San Francisco. Upon landing in S.F. a romantic love relationship with the place ensued and she has considered it home for the last six years.

Tara exhibits regularly in San Francisco in local galleries, non-profits, bathrooms, etc. Tara considers herself an artist and an advocate of youth involvement in the arts. She is currently the Artists In Education Program Manager at Southern Exposure, a job best described as her dream job. Tara has worked extensively with diverse populations in the social work field, mental health, woman’s shelters, group homes, hospitals and as a teacher.
