Hand-in-Glove 2015
Common Field, a new visual arts organizing network, has opened tickets and registration for its itinerant convening – Hand-in-Glove, September 17-20, in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Organized by Works Progress Studio and The Soap Factory, the 2015 convening will assemble over 350 visual arts organizers from across the United States and beyond to explore the contexts and conditions of artist-centered projects and spaces and celebrate the official launch of Common Field.
Tickets, schedules, and info are now available at commonfield.org.
Since 2011, Hand-in-Glove has brought together arts organizers, leaders, curators, artists, supporters, and radical administrators to share practices, exchange ideas, and deepen peer relationships. The Minneapolis-St. Paul convening will include debates, panel discussions, artist-designed dinners, workshops, celebratory evening events, and an art tour across the two cities.
Southern Exposure is proud to be a founding member of Common Field, which aims to serve as a platform for independent, non-commercial, experimental contemporary visual arts organizations and organizers from the US and beyond that supports learning, connectivity, research, and advocacy across these groups. Common Field was co-founded by Southern Exposure’s Executive Director, Courtney Fink with a group of organizers and leaders in the field. Common Field’s launch at Hand-in-Glove will officially open membership to visual arts organizations and organizers. Self-nominating members will include artist-run organizations, non-profit art spaces, publications, digital exhibition venues, festivals, residencies, collectives, and collaborative organizers working in a variety of mediums. Common Field's network will facilitate peer-to-peer resources, research, learning, advocacy, and alliances – bringing new voice and visibility to support and grow the field.
As new members of Common Field, Hand-in-Glove 2015 participants will join founding members and leaders in developing futures for the network.
