2018 Juried Exhibition

Southern Exposure invites Bay Area artists of color to submit new photo-based work for the 27th Annual Juried Exhibition, curated by Ashley Stull Meyers, The Robert and Mercedes Eichholz Director and Curator of the Art Gym and Belluschi Pavilion at Marylhurst University.

Who is eligible:

Open to artists of color living in San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, Napa, Marin, and Sonoma Counties. Artists may work in collaboration with artists from outside the Bay Area. Work selected for this exhibition will exemplify Southern Exposure’s mission and our commitment to supporting new, innovative, risk-taking contemporary visual art practices.

What work will be considered:

  • •    Photographs or photo-based work, i.e. photographs on paper or other substrate, video installations, etc
  • •    Work must have been completed in 2017-2018
  • •    Work must be ready to be delivered to Southern Exposure, ready for installation by July 9th, 2018

Jurying and Notification:

Artists whose work has been accepted for the exhibition will be notified by email by 7:00 PM on Friday, June 29, 2018. Don’t email us. We’ll email you!

ABOUT THE JUROR

Ashley Stull Meyers is a writer, editor, and curator of contemporary art. She has organized exhibitions and programming for the Wattis Institute (San Francisco), Eli Ridgway (San Francisco), the Oakland Museum of California, Newspace Center for Photography, Blue Sky Gallery (Portland, OR), and Bridge Productions (Seattle, WA). She has been in academic residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art (Omaha, NE) and the Banff Centre (Banff, Alberta). She is Northwest Editor for Art Practical, and has contributed writing to Bomb Magazine, Rhizome, Arts.Black and SFAQ/NYAQ. In 2017 Meyers was named the Robert and Mercedes Eichholz Director and Curator of the Art Gym and Belluschi Pavilion at Marylhurst University.
