Southern Exposure's New Interns, Darlene Adena & Aileen Su

Enterprise for High School Students (EHSS) was founded in 1969 by Gladys Thacher, a non-profit visionary and champion of young people. The mission of EHSS is to engage and empower San Francisco Bay Area high school students to discover career opportunities and cultivate their individual interests through training, guidance, and employment experiences in a diverse and supportive learning environment. EHSS programs provide students with the ability and opportunity to find and retain jobs, explore career opportunities through internships and job shadowing, get career and college counseling, and develop life skills crucial for their transition from high school to adult life.

Darlene is a student intern from Enterprise for High School Students (EHSS). This is her second year participating in the Career Exploration Program Internship at EHSS. She had previously interned at City Hall last summer with the office of Supervisor David Campos. She decided to apply again to the CEP Internship and intern in the field of Communications here at Southern Exposure. Darlene graduated from George Washington High School this past May. Her interests in the arts grew passionately when she took dance all four years of high school. She was a member of the GWHS Dance Company in her junior and senior year, where she became both a performer and choreographer. She will be attending California State University Long Beach this upcoming fall. She plans to study both Communications and International Business. She looks forward to learning about the different aspects of how Southern Exposure promotes their art exhibitions and events throughout her internship.

Aileen Su is also an intern from EHSS and this is her first year participating in the Career Exploration Program internship. Aileen graduated from Thurgood Marshall High School this year and looks forward to attend City College of San Francisco in the fall, where she hopes to explore different interests and study Computer Science and Art. Throughout her previous years, Aileen have mentored and tutored elementary school students at numerous programs including Peer Resources, Boys & Girls Club, and the YMCA afterschool program. In addition, Aileen has participated in numerous art, graffiti, and dance clubs; painted school murals, drawn for fellow classmates, and performed Hip-Hop dances at her schools. Her passion for art and fascination for how Southern Exposure displays art addressing social issues brought her to become a part of the art organization. Her goals for the internship are to learn how an arts organization engages their audience through the web and social media, to learn about the working life of artists, and to create an artwork of her own.
