Tamra Seal: Irresistible Forces

Interface Gallery is excited to present Irresistible Forces, a solo installation of new work by Tamra Seal. Drawing inspiration from disparate sources such as industrial design, film and Tantric tradition, Seal creates abstract sculptures that are strange and oddly alluring. The sculptures operate as props, set and transformational vehicles, drawing viewers in and eliciting surprising emotional responses.

Fictilis: Vague Notions

Join Interface Gallery for two participatory brainstorming sessions facilitated by art collective Fictilis on Saturday July 19. At 12:00 PM: Art and the Mundane (from Felicity Fenton) invites participants to explore what is mundane and how we might make such experiences more fulfilling, playful and engaging. At 1:00 PM: Anticipatory Haiku (from Missa Coffman) invites participants to reflect on interactions you’re likely to have with strangers or acquaintances in the near future and to write a poem to give to the person in case the situation arises. the event the situation arises. This project is one of three month-long interactive, community-based projects at Interface Gallery that are supported by the Alternative Exposure grant.

BAASICS.5: Monsters brings together a diverse group of artists, scientists and performers to consider all manner of monsters. Professor John Hafernik, author and translator Erik Butler, marine biologist David McGuire and artist Brynda Glazier will join BAASICS co-founders and producers Selene Foster and Christopher Reiger for an entertaining evening of art, science and wonder.

For June and July, Little Paper Planes hosts an outpost workshop of the Bean Gilsdorf Living History Museum, where artist Bean Gilsdorf will create needlework samplers based on audio samples gleaned from field recordings taken in the rapidly changing Mission District.

August 2014 LPP+ Residency: VACATION DAYS
The VACATION DAYS residency features limited edition framed prints and silk accessories from LA-based artist Hamish Robertson.

Night Light: Multimedia Garden Party

Shapeshifters is one of the community partners at SOMArts' Night Light: Multimedia Garden Party, a one-night-only event of luminous art installations. The five live audiovisual performances and digital and cinematic projections by more than thirty artists include many Shapeshifters alums. Highlights include electronic music set to desert landscapes, projections on a boat, experimental video that reacts to the viewer, pop songs from a dystopian future and a VW beetle covered in lights.
