One of a series of ink drawings on the pages of Proust's A la Recherche de Temps Perdu

A San Francisco native, Oriane Stender is now based in Brooklyn. She attended the San Francisco Art Institute and graduated from UC Berkeley, and has shown her work at Gallery Paule Anglim, SF; Allan Stone Gallery, New York; Fred.Giampietro Gallery, New Haven, CT; Firecat Projects, Chicago; and many other venues nationally, and a few internationally.

Oriane’s work is in the museum collections of Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Federal Reserve Board, Washington, DC; International Collage Center, New York; Arkansas Art Center. Corporate collections include JP Morgan Chase and Centerbridge LLC. Her work has been reviewed in The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times and other publications.

Oriane’s current body of work is made on - and of - the pages of Proust’s A la Recherche du Temps Perdu. The novel functions as a sort of origin myth for the artist as she is named after Oriane de Guermantes, a character in the book. This series deals with legacy and what is handed down to us and what we do with it, how we make it our own.
