Magical Negro Pussy

Magical Negro Pussy, 2014
Angela Hennessy is an Oakland-based interdisciplinary artist and death care educator. She is Associate Professor at California College of the Arts where she teaches courses on cultural narratives of death, textile theory, and strategies of feminist art.
The series Magical Negro Pussy is a flirtation with notions of visibility, agency, and exploitation within discourses of art, erotica, and pornography. Low relief 'drawings' in sheet metal are formed by traditional metalsmithing techniques of repousse and chasing, then hand-pierced with needles and backlit by LED panels.
Recent Bay Area talks and performances include You’re Going to Die’s When They Died; IDEO’s Reimagine End of Life; Disclose Silence: We See Violence; Dead Black at Nook Gallery, and conference lectures From the Morgue to the Museum at Death, Art, and Anatomy in England, and Death:OK in Oregon.
