The text in this piece comes directly from the book by Neltje Blanchan titiled, Birds That Hunt and Are Hunted: Life Histories of One-Hundred Sevently Birds of Prey, Game Birds and Water Fowls. The artist notes: "I love this book, the writing style is so good-- i copied the section on the passenger pigeon word for word around my sketch of the now extinct bird -- which i kept in black and white since we exterminated them we don't deserve to see them in color."
