Lynn Sondag is an artist living in San Francisco since 1995. Sondag uses landscape painting to explore the ways we perceive and assign aesthetic value to the natural environment. For over twenty years she's recorded the landscapes and neighborhoods in various places she has lived both in the U.S. and abroad. Sondag began working with themes of landscape painting and environmental aesthetics during her first international artist residency in Dresden, Germany, shortly after the country’s reunification. Since then, she's lived and attended artists residencies in India, Nepal, Italy, and Denmark, to develop series of paintings under this theme. Her work is exhibited in both galleries and public spaces in San Francisco and other cities in the United States. She is currently the Chair of the Department of Art, Art History, and Design at Dominican University of California, and Associate Professor of art. Sondag has a deep and varied background in arts education and community-engaged art. With her students and community partners, she facilitates public art pieces that address issues important to the local community. In addition to college level teaching, she also has several years of global teaching experience and worked across a broad spectrum of students from primary and secondary schools, universities, and older adult populations. In 2011, Lynn received the “Teacher of the Year” award at Dominican University, and in 2013 I was named “Educator of the Month” by the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce.
