In Round 1 of the Alternative Exposure grant program, Southern Exposure awarded $45,000 to 15 projects at the level of $3,000 each.

An outside panel selected the 2008 grantees. Jurors included: Laurie Lazer, Co-Director of the Luggage Store Gallery; Susan Miller the former Executive Director at New Langton Arts and current adjunct professor in Fine Arts at the University of San Francisco; and Abner Nolan a San Francisco-based artist and curator, and current adjunct professor of photography at the California College of the Arts.
