Southern Exposure at Downtown High School
Final Event and Class Celebration
December 17, 2008, 12pm-2pm
At Downtown High School: 693 Vermont Street at 19th Street Room 10
This event is open to afilliates of Downtown High School.
During the fall 2008 semester, students from Downtown High School have been participating in Southern Exposure’s after-school silk screening program with teaching artist Erik Parra and artist assistant Ivan Lopez. Students engage in critical discussions about iconic symbols, color theory, elements of design, and social movements.
For the final celebration, silk-screen designs will be on view at Downtown High school, with work that focused on personal symbolism and symbols that speak to larger communities. Students were asked to compete in a design contest to develop the new official school mascot. Come cast your ballot for the most relevant design. The design with the most votes wins! The winning design will be printed on t-shirts for the student body to take home. Refreshments and snacks will be served.
